Hi families, I have some catching up to do! ABC countdown is so much fun but very tiring. I’ve gotten a little behind on our page a day blogging so I’m going to get caught up in one big post! D was for dinosaurs and dolls. We had share time to tell about the things we brought for the day. Our dolls provided some giggles as they crawled, talked, and even went potty! We spent the rest of our day doing research and labeling diagrams about different dinosaurs. Jonah’s mom even stopped by to do a fantastic lesson on paleontologists and how they excavate dinosaur bones. She even had a few real bones for us to hold! What a treat! E was for Earth. We learned what it means to be green and take care of our planet. We also had to finish up some of our dinosaur activities and make our own fossils! F was for field trip. We went to the Smyrna Bowling Center and received a behind the scenes look at how the machines work! The kids said f was also for fun and fall (we had a few bumps during the day). Our lady bug larvae and caterpillars also came on letter f day to add to the fun! We tried out our new broadcasting equipment from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation too. Microphones sure are fun in helping us practice our speaking skills! G was for games and grandparents (with some other family members too)! This has to be one of our favorite events as a class. The kids just love having their families here at school. We also had concession stand and house meetings to add to the busy day! Our technology coach also delivered 5 new laptops for our class. It is very exciting to add more technology opportunities to our classroom! So that was how we spent our incredibly eventful week! The fun just keeps coming as we near the end of our school year. I’m going to be sad to see summer come because we have such a great time together! -Mrs. Smith

Hi families, Today we finished up some leftover letter B activities and enjoyed a delicious letter C! Mrs. Honey helped us bake up some yummy confetti cake cookies. Hot out of the oven and gooey goodness. We also read a favorite story of a funny little mouse who keeps wanting a long list of things after getting a cookie. Tomorrow we will compare to another one of Laura Numeroff’s books that goes perfectly with letter D! -Mrs. SmithHi families, We had a fun day reading some of our favorite books together and learning all about bubbles! Did your little one ask you if bubbles are clear? We learned the words iridescent and evaporation. There was so much to learn and explore that we will have to finish up letter B on Monday and then dive right in to our letter C fun! -Mrs. SmithHi families, The countdown to summer has begun. Our ABC countdown is exciting and fun but also bittersweet. I’ve grown to love these little ones and will be sad to send them on to my first grade teacher friends! Today we talked about Hawaii. We learned about the hula, traditions behind leis, and even listened to Elvis sing Blue Hawaii! There were also some amazing green screen pictures. Our beach towels had to be used inside due to the frigid temperatures outside. Definitely not aloha beachy weather! -Mrs. SmithHi families, Did you hear about the leprechauns that were loose in the school yesterday? Several classrooms set traps to catch the poor little things but we did not and were rewarded for our kindness! Our leprechaun visitors left us chocolate gold coins and green bracelets so we won’t get pinched. To our surprise, the leprechauns used our bathroom... twice! (But they must’ve been too small to flush!) We went to Mrs. McCann’s classroom to visit our siblings and see the traps they were setting. They had some very cool ideas but we aren’t sure they’ll get any gold! -Mrs. SmithHi families, We had an amazing week and a fantastic Friday together! We played “Trash Ball” in SMART time. Always a fun game to practice our throwing skills. We had our Games with Grandparents and other family members. Such a great time visiting with each other, learning how to take turns and how to be good sports. We finished the day with house meetings and our Great Shake competition. In each house house the kids were divided by grade level and showed of their handshaking skills as well as their conversation skills. We are so proud to say that Mali was the kindergarten winner and will move on to the next round of competition. Next week looks to be just as exciting as we celebrate Dr Seuss! -Mrs. SmithHi families! We had two very busy, very fun days last week. Our half day on Thursday was all about 100 with our 100th day of school celebration! We had fun with our STEM stations. Each group got creative with cups, popsicle sticks, linking cubes, pattern blocks, and toothpicks with marshmallows. Even though the day was a fast one, we enjoyed the opportunity to have family with us! Friday gave us the opportunity to finish some leftover activities like our 100 piece snack. We also went outside to look for shadows and made our seasonal weather predictions like Punxsutawney Phil. It is said time flies when you are having fun. We are having a blast together because each day goes by like the blink of an eye. Before we realize, I’ll be passing these sweet little ones on to a first grade teacher. 💙 -Mrs. SmithHi families, We’ve been incredibly blessed over the past month with amazing supporters on Donors Choose. Several of you have even given to our projects and I feel so blessed to have your support of our classroom! Some of our new items arrived and we dove right in today with our new 3Doodlers. For our first project, to learn how the pens worked, each child wrote his or her first intital on a paper to trace with their color of choice. The kids were so excited to test out the pens and many were even more excited to find out they could take their letter home! Many of the letters were brittle and we talked about how next time we will use more lines so the plastic will not be as thin. This is definitely a work in progress with a learning curve for all of us! I look forward to showing you more projects as the kids become 3D pen experts. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this new resource to our classroom! -Mrs. SmithHi families, Actual snow on a middle Tennessee snow day is exciting. Can you believe the time off we are getting? Friday=no snow snow day, Monday=MLK day, Tuesday=for real snow day, Wednesday= already called due to snow and temperatures. Will I see your little ones on Thursday? Share those amazing snow day pictures with me in Class Dojo so we can enjoy hearing what everyone did on our surprise break! -Mrs. SmithHi families, I can’t wait to see everyone on Monday! Hopefully your 2018 is off to a great start. We will kick our January off together by sharing stories with each other about our winter break festivities. Some families traveled long distances and to other countries to visit with relatives! If you have a picture you want to share you can send it to me on Class Dojo. We will make a learning resolution with some fun green screen action and be sure to ease back in to our routine with GoNoodle breaks too. Hopefully the weather will allow for some outside time. Our related arts class will be library so we can bring home a new book to get right to those January BookIt calendars. Enjoy the weekend and see you soon! Mrs. Smith |
