I think the kids might have been a little disappointed in days E and F because we were just learning all day! E was all about our planet and the kids were very interested in where we live in space. We tried our shaving cream painting again and it made some very beautiful planet pictures! The letter f was all about farms. We learned about farm animals and machines. Two of our new vocabulary words were crops and manure! Did they come home and tell you they learned about poop?! It was quite humorous and incredibly fascinating. They also practiced their speaking and listening skills as they shared the items they brought for farm day. We finished out a great week with a super fun day of games and grandparents! I always love having family at school. It creates such happy memories for everyone. We had grandparents, parents, and siblings to help us enjoy some of our favorite games. There were great classics like HiHo Cherry-O, CandyLand, Sorry, Memory, and Old Maid. I enjoyed getting to meet the children's extended families and sharing great stories of their most precious grandchildren. Thanks for a great week families! Looking forward to more fun as we start our last month of school. -Mrs. Smith

Hi families! It was great to see so many of you this morning to enjoy some donuts with us in celebration of letter d day! Family time at school is so special for the kids. Just look at all these happy, donut stuffed smiles! Later in the day we had a quick show and tell with our dolls and dinosaurs. Pebble go helped us learn about four different dinosaurs: triceratops, stegosaurus, brachiosaurus and the fierce t-rex. We filled out diagrams labeling key parts to help us tell these dinosaurs apart. Brain pop jr. taught us about fossils and then we got a little messy trying to make our own Dino fossils! Our clay should dry by the end of the week so we can bring these home. Special area today was another great thing that starts with d... art with Mrs. Dellinger. Can't wait to have more fun tomorrow! -Mrs. SmithIf those words don't make you sing like a blue monster then you have seriously missed out on a major childhood memory. The kids would probably say c is for crazy because they looked at me like I was crazy when I burst into song like Cookie Monster! We then had to find the song on YouTube so they could have some context for their teacher's ridiculous serenade. We also sang a song to practice our sight word who with the book Who Stole the Cookies? Today was all around pretty crazy so I didn't get good pictures of our cookie snack or craft. I promise I'll do better tomorrow! Until then... "Me want cookies!" 🍪
Hi families! How many Pinterest fails have you experienced? You see it online and think, "Wow! That looks like a great idea. I'm going to try it!" And then... you're explaining to a room full of 20 kindergarteners that sometimes things just don't go right the first time you try them. Exhibit A- Bubble painting with food coloring Of course this looked like a great idea for B day. The pictures I found on line looked so neat with the colorful patterns the popped bubbles made on the paper. Enter art failure #1! I later learned from Mrs. Schott, tempra paint, not food coloring, is the better ingredient for successful bubble painting. It may have also worked better if I had used actual bubble wands instead of pipe cleaner wands! Exhibit B- Shaving cream marbling Google it. You will see some amazing artwork. But... you guessed it. Art failure #2! This time Mrs. Dellinger had to school me on my error. I mixed primary and secondary colors and that is a big no no. (Unless you are going for a really great yucky shade of brown!) I'm still trying to decide if we will try again on Monday. Art mishaps aside, we had a really fun day together. Some friends brought in their favorite book so we started our morning sharing those great stories. After lunch we went outside before the rain could start and blew a storm of bubbles! We even practiced blowing bubble gum bubbles at the end of the day. There was so much fun to be had that we didn't even finish everything I had planned for the letter b. Maybe the kids won't mind if Monday starts with b and ends with c. -Mrs. SmithAloha families. My first blog post and I start with A- Aloha Day! There have been so many times over the past few months that I found myself thinking, "Oh, this would be a great time to start our classroom blog!" It just seemed like such an intimidating task. Now I find that there are only 26 school days, make that 25 since today has come and gone, and I'm ready to dive in and give blogging a try. Today was was the long awaited aloha day. The children and I have been looking forward to all the fun we are going to have celebrating our last few weeks together. My how the time has flown by! I know that in the blink of an eye we will have reached the letter Z and our year together will have ended. Can you remember the first day of school? What an exciting moment it was for all of us! To celebrate the first day of our countdown, the kids received a lei from me this morning. We talked about the very interesting state of Hawaii. The children found great humor in my pronunciation of many native words in the book A is for Aloha by U'ilani Goldsberry. They were fascinated with the idea of active volcanoes. We tried some hula steps and listened to the state song. Did you know the state bird is the Nene? That got a roar of laughter and then a burst of song and dance moves! After lunch, we took a quick trip outside to enjoy a fruit cup and some sunshine. Several friends couldn't resist kicking off their shoes and imagining the sand between their toes. Well families, I must tell you that I have been so blessed to have spent a wonderful year of kindergarten with each and every one of these sweet little faces! While I know we are going to have some amazing days ahead, the countdown is bittersweet. Thank you for sharing your children with me this year. Aloha. -Mrs. Smith |
