Hi families, It is tax free weekend! Time to go out and shop for back to school clothes and school supplies. Use the links below to see supply lists and more details about the tax holiday. This week teachers have been busy in their classrooms, attending trainings and even took a little time to have lunch together. I was so busy visiting with our new teachers during lunch at Miller's Grocery that I forgot to take pictures! I did get this great pic at Rutherford County's two day conference. Mrs. Helton, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Schott and I had a great time learning together! Enjoy those last few days of summer vacation and I can't wait to see you soon! -Mrs. Smith

Hi families, Today was the first day many of us were allowed to return to the school this summer due to construction. Usually I take June for my family and once July 1st rolls around I'm back in my classroom getting ready for the next school year. This summer has been a little different because of all the construction going on at the school. I feel bad for some of my teacher friends because there are a few who still cannot get back in their classrooms yet! Here's what my room looked like when I got to school. 😱 In years past the custodians have placed our big furniture items for us. This year they have a new waxing machine so the process was a little different. Construction has also kept them busy with surprises. Luckily, Mr. Mindigo was able to help me move the really big stuff! Here's what my room looked like a few hours later. There is still a lot of work to do but I am excited to get ready for August! I hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks of summer and I'm looking forward to seeing you soon. 😄 -Mrs. SmithHi families, Did you imagine me saying this title in my best and loudest high-pitched squeal?! What am I so excited about? Mo Willems of course! One of our classroom's favorite authors has books and plush characters for $5 at Kohls. I ran right out to the store on Friday to scoop them up because they will sell out fast. Nolan fell in love with Duckling. He said, "The duck dos like this." I hope you are having a fantastic summer and I'll see you back at school before you know it! -Mrs. SmithHi families, So excited to see two of my almost firsties and a soon to be kinder kiddo (sure hope he is in my class) at the library today! We got to see a great magic show by Mr. Bruce Amato. Sophia was even chosen to be a magical assistant. Maybe we will get to see more of you there next week on Wednesday at 10am! -Mrs. SmithHi families, Nolan said one of my favorite things to hear as a "teacher mommy" today... "Let's go to the library Mommy!" You will probably find us in Smyrna every Wednesday in July because the library has some great events planned, not only on Wednesdays @ 10am, all summer long. Take a look at some of our favorites we've read this summer and we hope to see you at the library! -Mrs. SmithHi families! I realize this is two posts in one day, and that it is summer and no one is probably even reading this, but I'm just too excited not to share! The most awesome email landed in my inbox today from Donors Choose saying my math professional development project had been funded!! Woooo hoooo😆. It is like my birthday and Christmas morning all rolled into one big surprise. I have the privilege of saying thank you to The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Teacher2Teacher community for funding the remaining amount of my project! You can follow the link below to see what the project was all about or take a look at my two other projects going on now. Teaching Tolerance Through Puppet Play is brand new and eligible for matched donations for the next 7 days if you use the code LIFTOFF. You can always show me some love by posting links to my projects on your Facebook pages. You never know who may want to help out our classroom. 💙 -Mrs. SmithHi families, Have you checked out the D.C. Eagle Cam lately? We started watching these two when they were just eggs! They have grown into amazing creatures right before our eyes. Check out this awesome selfie 😉🦅 They don't quite look like mom and dad yet but their colors will change as they grow older. Take a look soon because they will leave the nest before you know it! -Mrs. SmithHi families, I hope everyone is having fun this month and enjoying some family time together but I don't want you to completely forget about school! While time off is great to recharge our bodies and spirits, our minds need continued challenges. Just take a look at this infographic from Carson-Dellosa publishing. (I know they want you to buy their books but the information is still relevant.) We have all put in the hard work to build smart little brains in your kinders this year. Continue that work this summer with fun activities that don't even feel like learning. 😉 Your child has access to I-ready and MobyMax this summer. If they have forgotten their login just shoot me an email! The Smyrna Public Library also has their summer reading program going on right now with some very fun incentives and special themed events. (Gotta check out one of the magic shows or balloon artists Wednesdays in July!) My hope for you dear families is that you have a safe and fun summer with some learning sprinkled in along the way! I can't wait to see you in August. 💙🦅 -Mrs. SmithHi families! I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer break and getting some well deserved family time. My family just got back from our favorite vacation destination Disney World. If you have ever been then you know it is not the most relaxing vacation but you get some pretty magical memories! I just have to post a few pics because I know how much some of my boys love Star Wars just like my little ones. I won't leave out the girls because many of them liked the princesses. I miss all my little friends and can't wait to see you in August so you can tell me all about your summer adventures! -Mrs. Smith |
