Hi families! We reached the end of the year. Can you believe kindergarten is over for your little one? I have truely enjoyed each and every smiling face that I had the privilege of spending each day with in room G4! Things got so busy these last couple of weeks that I didn't find the time to update our class blog. Now that summer is here, I am officially avoiding cleaning my house by adding more pictures and a few final activities from May. Let's see... we had s for show and tell, t was all about Tennessee, u was for our U.S.A. (hopefully now they can tell you that stands for United States of America). Then there was v for visit Owl's Hill. This trip provided several kids with some firsts. First port a potty and first tick bite! Not the most enjoyable first but learning experiences all the same. We got to take a beautiful hike and see some owls up close. W day was for watermelon. Everyone tried at least one bite! X gave us a reason to have extra recess and y was a rainy year end day. Z was "zee last day of school" said in a horrible French accent! 😉. We even had time to throw in a career day event with 2 of our fabulous parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frazier, stopping by to teach us about serving our country in the military and the art of creative expression through music! I hope your children have loved kindergarten as much as I have loved being their teacher this year. If you will not be back at David Youree in the fall I wish you all the best! For the rest, I can't wait to see you in August to hear all about your summer and see your big first graders! 💙 -Mrs. Smith

Good evening families! Yesterday was field day and what an amazing time we had together. A big thanks goes out to Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Raynor for all the hard work and planning that goes on behind the scenes to make such a big event a success! I took so many pictures that I've added a field day slideshow on our memories page. Here are a few of my favorites. Monday was also R for race which we did with the soccer ball race and Amable won! Today was S for show and tell. Unfortunately I was not with the kids today due to an all day meeting. I hope they all had fun sharing their item with their classmates. ❤️ -Mrs. SmithHi families, I need your help spreading the word about my Donors Choose projects. I've seen Mrs. Tidwell and Mrs. Reyes get some really great things for their classrooms and I decided I needed to have a go at it! For just 3 more days if you entered the code LIFTOFF on my math project your donation will be doubled. Not sure if it will work on my Osmo project but it is worth a try. Another great way to help is to use the social meadia buttons on the project pages and post to your Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter accounts and use the hashtag #ThanksTeach. Sonic is finding projects to fully fund through the month of May! I realize these projects won't be here before your children leave me but your support is greatly appreciated. -Mrs. SmithEach year the first grade students and teachers transform their classrooms into exciting habitats and fill the rooms with amazing animal projects. This year had no shortage of creative crafts, posters, models and speeches to help our kinder kids learn all about the animals that inhabit our world. We were able to visit 5 out of the 7 first grade classes to experience the classroom "museums." Take a look at some of the great projects and store away some good ideas for next year! 😉 Mrs. Abel's OceanMrs. Frederick's GrasslandMrs. Irwin's DesertMrs. Mindigo's WoodlandsMrs. Webb's RainforestMany of the first grade teachers are my good friends and I know that they will love your sweet little ones just as much as I do this year! 💙 -Mrs. SmithHi families! To finish out our very busy week we crowned the girls queen for the day and went to ask Mrs. Abel's first grade friends some questions. The children came up with some great questions to ask "the big kids" and they had surprising answers! We learned that there is no free center time in first grade but you do get to play on the spinning things at recess! 😆 In first grade you get your very own desk to keep your things in and your spelling homework is done each week. We really appreciate Mrs. Abel and her friends helping us feel good about becoming first graders in the fall. -Mrs. SmithHi families! We made paper planes for the letter p. I always love taking pictures of the children so they can have some mementos from kindergarten. Today's pictures are filled with happy little faces enjoying being kids. I couldn't let you miss out on the action so check out the 2 videos to get the full experience! -Mrs. SmithM= Monday morning, muffins, moms, man (because we will take any family that wants to visit 😉) and movies! Monday was crammed full of fun for the letter m. We were so happy to have family visit our classroom to share in enjoying some super tasty muffins. I owe a big thanks to Danica's mom for helping to prepare our breakfast snack. She works in the Costco bakery so she offered to pick up the muffins for us and cut them... because man they are huge! I think everyone enjoyed them and spending time with family and friends. We watched Finding Nemo later in the afternoon to help us get ready for O ocean day. Tuesday was night, necklaces and neckties. Free centers got a little crazy with the lights out! Today was oceans for the letter O. Lots of friends brought in things that can be found in the ocean. We even had a blanket that was beautiful ocean blue! A great debate was started when we talked about a shark vs a killer whale. I just love those natural, teachable moments! We did some research and... well, have your little one tell you who wins. Tomorrow we will get to visit some first grade siblings and friends as they present their first grade research projects! -Mrs. SmithProud parents and teachers too! What an amazing performance our sweet little kinders put on Thursday night! Veteran kindergarten teachers commented that it was one of the best. I even heard them saying as much during our practices. The kids did an outstanding job practicing and performing. I am so proud and I know you must be too. -Mrs. SmithHi families, Let's just say strep throat seems to be my kryptonite! It has really taken a toll on me the last half of this week, but I think the kids have still enjoyed their ABC countdown days. Monday was H for hats. Everyone got to make their own party hat, even if they wore one of their own. We had great fun making designs with stickers. I for icy treats was Tuesday. We enjoyed some yummy icy pops after recess and everyone wanted to know what color their tongue had turned! We went exploring in the jungle on Wednesday. The children had great fun proving me wrong several times. Did you know their are dolphins that live in rivers near the Amazon? I had no idea there was a lizard that shot blood from its eyes when threatened by predators! There is even a blue monkey. If the kids didn't learn anything then I sure did! 😉 The children shared the animals they brought and we made our own jungle animals booklets. Thursday I was out sick but thanks to Ms. Haley, our EA who took care of the kids all day, the kids still got to have some fun (and learning too). K was for kings. The boys wore their crowns! Mrs. Reyes took some pictures for me because I just didn't want to miss their big moment of rule! Our kites were postponed due to rain and I wanted to be there with the kids. Now finally to Friday! We made our kites and flew them even though there was the tiniest little drizzle in the air. The kids didn't seem to mind. We also had lollipops and lemonade to celebrate the letter L. This was a very busy week with so much more going on! Next week looks to be just as eventful! -Mrs. SmithHey families! H is for hats and happy teacher! The kids had a fantastic day. I can tell they will soon be first graders! We accomplished so many things today despite a funky schedule and I can't wait for you to see them Thursday night. The related arts team helped us practice in the gym for our kinder program. I've told the kids their goal should be to make the mommies cry. 😭😆. The days are flying by families... I am going to miss spending my day with these little ones! -Mrs. Smith |
