Hi families, I have some catching up to do! ABC countdown is so much fun but very tiring. I’ve gotten a little behind on our page a day blogging so I’m going to get caught up in one big post! D was for dinosaurs and dolls. We had share time to tell about the things we brought for the day. Our dolls provided some giggles as they crawled, talked, and even went potty! We spent the rest of our day doing research and labeling diagrams about different dinosaurs. Jonah’s mom even stopped by to do a fantastic lesson on paleontologists and how they excavate dinosaur bones. She even had a few real bones for us to hold! What a treat! E was for Earth. We learned what it means to be green and take care of our planet. We also had to finish up some of our dinosaur activities and make our own fossils! F was for field trip. We went to the Smyrna Bowling Center and received a behind the scenes look at how the machines work! The kids said f was also for fun and fall (we had a few bumps during the day). Our lady bug larvae and caterpillars also came on letter f day to add to the fun! We tried out our new broadcasting equipment from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation too. Microphones sure are fun in helping us practice our speaking skills! G was for games and grandparents (with some other family members too)! This has to be one of our favorite events as a class. The kids just love having their families here at school. We also had concession stand and house meetings to add to the busy day! Our technology coach also delivered 5 new laptops for our class. It is very exciting to add more technology opportunities to our classroom! So that was how we spent our incredibly eventful week! The fun just keeps coming as we near the end of our school year. I’m going to be sad to see summer come because we have such a great time together! -Mrs. Smith

Hi families, I’m a little delayed getting this posted but I wanted to celebrate the awesome event we had on Friday. Donuts with Dad was so much fun and we had a really great turnout. Did you know dads can craft? The kids were so excited to make their dads finger paint! For the little ones whose dad couldn’t make it, many of the children were lovingly “sharing” their dad. We enjoyed donut holes, juice and milk. Thanks to Kensley’s dad for bringing the milk! 🥛 -Mrs. SmithHi families! We had a fantastic lunch today celebrating this time of year when we give thanks for our many blessings. It was so nice (although a little hectic) having so many families join us in the cafeteria for lunch today. If you couldn’t make it today you are always welcome in our classroom and the children would love to see you for lunch any old day! I hope I snapped a picture of everyone who came today. Check out these sweet smiles! -Mrs. SmithHi families! We reached the end of the year. Can you believe kindergarten is over for your little one? I have truely enjoyed each and every smiling face that I had the privilege of spending each day with in room G4! Things got so busy these last couple of weeks that I didn't find the time to update our class blog. Now that summer is here, I am officially avoiding cleaning my house by adding more pictures and a few final activities from May. Let's see... we had s for show and tell, t was all about Tennessee, u was for our U.S.A. (hopefully now they can tell you that stands for United States of America). Then there was v for visit Owl's Hill. This trip provided several kids with some firsts. First port a potty and first tick bite! Not the most enjoyable first but learning experiences all the same. We got to take a beautiful hike and see some owls up close. W day was for watermelon. Everyone tried at least one bite! X gave us a reason to have extra recess and y was a rainy year end day. Z was "zee last day of school" said in a horrible French accent! 😉. We even had time to throw in a career day event with 2 of our fabulous parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frazier, stopping by to teach us about serving our country in the military and the art of creative expression through music! I hope your children have loved kindergarten as much as I have loved being their teacher this year. If you will not be back at David Youree in the fall I wish you all the best! For the rest, I can't wait to see you in August to hear all about your summer and see your big first graders! 💙 -Mrs. SmithM= Monday morning, muffins, moms, man (because we will take any family that wants to visit 😉) and movies! Monday was crammed full of fun for the letter m. We were so happy to have family visit our classroom to share in enjoying some super tasty muffins. I owe a big thanks to Danica's mom for helping to prepare our breakfast snack. She works in the Costco bakery so she offered to pick up the muffins for us and cut them... because man they are huge! I think everyone enjoyed them and spending time with family and friends. We watched Finding Nemo later in the afternoon to help us get ready for O ocean day. Tuesday was night, necklaces and neckties. Free centers got a little crazy with the lights out! Today was oceans for the letter O. Lots of friends brought in things that can be found in the ocean. We even had a blanket that was beautiful ocean blue! A great debate was started when we talked about a shark vs a killer whale. I just love those natural, teachable moments! We did some research and... well, have your little one tell you who wins. Tomorrow we will get to visit some first grade siblings and friends as they present their first grade research projects! -Mrs. SmithProud parents and teachers too! What an amazing performance our sweet little kinders put on Thursday night! Veteran kindergarten teachers commented that it was one of the best. I even heard them saying as much during our practices. The kids did an outstanding job practicing and performing. I am so proud and I know you must be too. -Mrs. SmithI think the kids might have been a little disappointed in days E and F because we were just learning all day! E was all about our planet and the kids were very interested in where we live in space. We tried our shaving cream painting again and it made some very beautiful planet pictures! The letter f was all about farms. We learned about farm animals and machines. Two of our new vocabulary words were crops and manure! Did they come home and tell you they learned about poop?! It was quite humorous and incredibly fascinating. They also practiced their speaking and listening skills as they shared the items they brought for farm day. We finished out a great week with a super fun day of games and grandparents! I always love having family at school. It creates such happy memories for everyone. We had grandparents, parents, and siblings to help us enjoy some of our favorite games. There were great classics like HiHo Cherry-O, CandyLand, Sorry, Memory, and Old Maid. I enjoyed getting to meet the children's extended families and sharing great stories of their most precious grandchildren. Thanks for a great week families! Looking forward to more fun as we start our last month of school. -Mrs. SmithHi families! It was great to see so many of you this morning to enjoy some donuts with us in celebration of letter d day! Family time at school is so special for the kids. Just look at all these happy, donut stuffed smiles! Later in the day we had a quick show and tell with our dolls and dinosaurs. Pebble go helped us learn about four different dinosaurs: triceratops, stegosaurus, brachiosaurus and the fierce t-rex. We filled out diagrams labeling key parts to help us tell these dinosaurs apart. Brain pop jr. taught us about fossils and then we got a little messy trying to make our own Dino fossils! Our clay should dry by the end of the week so we can bring these home. Special area today was another great thing that starts with d... art with Mrs. Dellinger. Can't wait to have more fun tomorrow! -Mrs. Smith |
